on march 20th, a florida pastor, terry jones put the koran on 'trial', found it guilty of murder and terrorism and set a copy of the book doused in gasoline on fire. last friday three mullahs in afghanistan urged revenge and so after friday prayers a mob overran the UN headquarters in mazar-i-sharlf, killing 12 people, 7 of them international staff members. the violence and protests continue today, the latest victims being 2 american soldiers who were shot by an afghan police officer and a school for girls funded by the united states agency for international development, whose classrooms and school bus were burned by rioters.
in another corner of the world last week, go daddy's ceo, bob parsons, shot and carved a bull elephant, claiming that he did it to protect the crops the elephant was trampling. he posted the video, which shows him posing with the murdered elephant and then cutting it up, on his twitter account. the video then goes on to show the local villagers, wearing 'go daddy' baseball hats, hacking up the elephants flesh and passing it through the crowd all to the soundtrack of ac/dc's 'hell's bells"! animal rights groups are up in arms and are demanding that customers cancel their go daddy accounts.
so an idiot burns the koran in florida and another idiot murders an elephant in zimbabwe and the smoldering fires of religious hatred and animal cruelty are once again fueled and set ablaze by selfish ignorant men who seem to have little regard for anything but publicity, controversy and self importance. somebody in a cave in northern bajaur is having a good week.
