the birth of south sudan

in january 2011, after years of conflict and war, nearly 99 percent of southern sudanese voters approved a split with northern sudan in an internationally backed referendum. today, southern sudan will be christened the republic of south sudan and take its place as the 54th african nation.

butcher babes

amelia posada and erika nakamura, better known in local food lover circles as lindy & grundy, recently opened a locally sourced and naturally raised butcher shop. they have received amazing nationwide press coverage and local customer reviews and i have to say that everything i've had has been truly fresh, delicious and praise worthy. the grass fed, organic, ground in the shop beef; the delicate, free range, house roasted chicken, the homemade local lamb bacon and tonight, amazingly fresh, pastured, locally raised pork chops. 
they are two of the friendliest, most passionate store owners i've ever come across and their love for the quality and art of preparing and offering locally fresh organic meat is infectious and until now, impossible to find in los angeles. 
i predict much deserved success for this dynamic butcher duo.

newsy, with hints of cedar, musk, spice - with "a powdery note and velvet nuance," meant to mimic the aroma of black ink on newsprint....fresh off the press!

the delicious gluttony of the holiday weekend continued today with homemade grilled prosciutto, mushroom, mozzarella and basil pizza's.
it should be noted that another weekend serving of salted caramel at 10pm was cancelled only due to exhausted and sleepy children.

umami

there is a constant and heated debate over which burger here in los angeles is the 'best' burger. endless blogs, articles and top ten lists are dedicated to the quest and critique of the ideal southern california burger, almost all containing praise for in n' out, father's office, apple pan, pie and burger and most recently umami which in my opinion is the best burger in town this year. perfectly sized, perfectly juicy, perfectly flavored, perfectly delicious.
it was over a 100 degrees today, and we couldn't bare to leave the pool, so we picked up some take out at umami's newest studio city location.
happy tanned jet lagged burger bellies all around.
